Imazalil nitrate is produced by first synthesising technical-grade imazalil through the established route used for imidazole-based fungicides, in which the substituted aromatic and imidazole fragments are constructed separately and then coupled to yield the active free base. Once the base meets specification, it is converted into the nitrate salt by controlled reaction with nitric acid in aqueous or mixed solvent media, forming a stable, water-compatible salt preferred for certain agricultural formulations.
