2-Decanone was used in the synthesis of brushed block copolymers via conjugation through an acid-labile hydrazone linker to poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(aspartate hydrazide) block copolymers; methyl ketones. 2-decanone used as a solvent and an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. It is also used in perfumes.

Medium-type strength odor, orange floral.
2-Decanone is a constituent of the essential oil of Ruta chalepensis L., which is used in the production of food, drugs and perfumery.
Slightly toxic by ingestion. Aflammable liquid. When heated to decomposition it emitsacrid smoke and irritating vapors.
