2-Pyridylethylamine

A solution of sodium borohydride (0.26 g, 7.00 mmol) in 30 mL of diethyl ether was added dropwise to a mixture of 2-(cyanomethyl)pyridine (0.80 g, 6.82 mmol) and AlCl3 (0.93 g, 7.00 mmol). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 6 hours. The solvent was removed, and the resulting mixture was extracted with hot isopropyl ether (3 x 30 mL). The organic layers were combined, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 2-Pyridylethylamine.

2-(2-Aminoethyl)pyridine is used as active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Low doses of histamine or H1R agonist 2-pyridylethylamine (2-PEA) into the knee-joint were found to decrease formalin-induced articular nociception in rats. The pharmacological blockade and neurotoxic ablation of cells expressing neuropeptide Y1 receptor (Y1R) in the spinal cord were able to prevent the antinociceptive effect produced by the intra-articular administration of the histamine H1 receptor (H1R) agonist, 2-pyridylethilamine (2-PEA), in the formalin-induced articular incapacitation in rats[1].
