Flutropium bromide is an antitussive useful in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and in the symptomatic relief of bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis. Recent studies suggest that flutropium bromide may have potential as a long-acting alternative to P-sympathomimetics or the xanthines in the prophylaxis of obstructive airways disease.

Obtained as white crystals from acetonitrile, melting point 192-193°C (decomposition); crystallized from ethanol-acetone, melting point 198-199°C (decomposition). Acute toxicity LD50 for male and female mice, male and female rats (mg/kg): 12.5, 11.0, 16.4, 18.4 for intravenous injection; 760, 810, 830, 740 for oral administration.
