α-Al2O3 (SEM) Particle Size Distribution of α-Al2O3
Characteristics Alumina is white powder, main component of bauxite, and has different crystals. Stable crystals are α-Al2O3 and γ-Al2O3. α-Al2O3 is hexagonal crystal, insoluble in water, acids and alkalis, and traditionally called corundum. The melting point of α-Al2O3 is 2015±15℃, density 3.965g/cm3 and hardness 8.8. γ-Al2O3 is cubic crystal, typical amphoteric oxide, insoluble in water, but soluble in acids and alkalis.
Applications Widely used as ceramic substrate, grinding ball, flexibilizer of zirconia grinding ball, electronic packaging material, raw material of manufacturing aluminium nitride by carbothermal reduction method, filler for heat-conducting engineering plastics, precision polishing material, advanced refractory, auto sparking plug, inorganic membrane, coating or electrode material of lithium battery and biological ceramics etc. functional ceramics and structural materials.
