Under certain temperature, catalyst, and initiator conditions, 1,3,5,7-tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane and trimethyl orthoformate are reacted via chain cleavage and transesterification to yield methyldimethoxysilane. A stabilizer is added during the reaction to suppress the disproportionation reaction.
Methyldimethoxysilane, reactive silane containing both Si-H and methoxy functional groups. The SiH group can be utilized for hydrosilylation to form methoxysilyl functional materials. Modification by hydrosilylation can bring the benefit of moisture cure or crosslinking by reactive methoxy groups.
Modifications by hydrosilylation reaction.
A poison by ingestion. A moderate eye irri-tant.
Flammability and Explosibility
Highly flammable
A poison by ingestion,
subcutaneous, and intravenous routes. A
moderate eye irritant. When heated to
decomposition it emits acrid smoke and
irritating vapors.
The ITSL for methyldimethoxysilane is 92 μg/m3 based on an annual averaging time.
