Rhodium 2-ethylhexanoate is an important precious metal compound commonly used in the chemical and electronics industries. Due to its high solubility in various organic solvents, high rhodium content, and strong stability, it is now widely used in the manufacture of precious metal thin-film coatings required for solar cells.
A method for producing rhodium 2-ethylhexanoate that is easy to operate, efficient, energy-saving and environmentally friendly. In a reactor, 210 g (1.456 moles) of 2-ethylhexanoic acid and 200 g of deionized water with 12.7 g (0.317 moles) of sodium hydroxide were added. Stirred at 60C for 1 hour. Rhodium trichloride 10g (0.048 mole) was added. The hot water was drained and the temperature was raised to 100 degrees Celsius with steam and refluxed for 24 hours. At the end of the reaction, cooled down to room temperature, static layering, the oil phase at 30-50 degrees Celsius dropwise addition of 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution, adjust the reaction system of acidity and alkalinity to pH = 6 ~ 10. Stirring for 20 minutes, until the pH stabilized, washed with an appropriate amount of deionized water, stirring for another 20 minutes, after the rest of the 18 hours, pumping and filtration, deionized water to wash the crystals, drained. Vacuum 100 degrees Celsius drying, discharge filtrate. Yield 99%, liquid phase purity: 98.5%.
