N,N,N'-Trimethylethylenediamine is used as a precursor in the synthesis of a novel gemini surfactant viz. N,N-dimethyl-N-{2-[N'-methyl-N'-(3-sulfopropyl)-alkylammonium]ethyl}-1-alkylammonium bromides. It is also used as an amine component for in-situ formation of alpha-amino alkoxides. Further, it is involved in the synthesis of N,N'-dimethyl-N'-(2-hydroxy-aethyl)-aethylendiamin.
N,N,N′-Trimethylethylenediamine is synthesized using laser-vaporization supersonic molecular beam. It has been studied using pulsed-field ionization zero electron kinetic energy.
A green and environment-friendly synthesis method of N, N, N'-Trimethylethylenediamine, which comprises the following steps: adding an aqueous solution of methylamine or dimethylamine into a reaction container, dropwise adding an aqueous solution of N, N-dimethylamino chloroethane hydrochloride into the methylamine when the methylamine is added into the reaction container, dropwise adding an aqueous solution of 2-chloro-N-methylethylamine hydrochloride into the dimethylamine when the dimethylamine is added into the reaction container, and obtaining a reaction solution after the reaction is finished; connecting a reaction container and a methylamine absorption device in series, dripping inorganic alkali solution into a reaction solution, and respectively collecting an organic phase and an alkali water phase; rectifying the organic phase to obtain N, N, N'-Trimethylethylenediamine.
