Colorless liquid.Soluble
in alcohols; insoluble in water.
4-Ethylbenzyl Chloride (CAS# 1467-05-6) can be used for oxidative degeneration of fragrant aldehydes in antiperspirant matrix leading to autoxidation and chlorinated products. It can also be used for extreme pressure additives toward lubricating oils and hydraulic fluids.
Consists of 70% pand 30% o-ethylbenzyl chloride.
A colorless to pale-colored liquid with a pungent odor. Insoluble in water and slightly denser than water. May irritate skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. May be toxic by ingestion. Used to make other chemicals.
Ethylbenzyl chloride is moderately reactive. Incompatible with strong oxidizing and reducing agents. Also incompatible with many amines, nitrides, azo/diazo compounds, alkali metals, and epoxides.
Irritant to eyes, a lachrymator.
Inhalation or contact with material may irritate or burn skin and eyes. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
Combustible Material. (NOAA, 2008)
