3,6-DIAMINOACRIDINE HYDROCHLORIDE

Acridine-3,6-diamine hydrochloride, canbe used for studying cation transfer at the liquid–liquid interface.

Slightly soluble in water.

3,6-DIAMINOACRIDINE HYDROCHLORIDE is amphoteric. Reacts both as a weak acid and as a weak base.

Poison by subcutaneous route. Questionable carcinogen. Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of NOx and HCl. Used as a drug, as a Isinfectant, and as a topical antiseptic.

It is first purified by precipitation of the free base by adding aqueous NH3 solution to an aqueous solution of the hydrochloride or hydrogen sulfate (see below), drying the precipitate and subliming at 0.01mm Hg [Müller & Crothers Eur J Biochem, 54 267 1975]. [Beilstein 22 H 487.]
