Ampropylfos is an obsolete fungicide that was formerly used to control mildew and other fungal diseases. It is highly soluble in water and is not considered to be volatile. It may be moderately persistent in soil systems depending upon conditions. It is not highly toxic to most fauna and flora. It has a low mammalian toxicity via the oral route but is a recognised irritant/
Ampropylfos is commercially synthesised by reacting phosphorous acid with 1aminopropanol or its derivatives under controlled. More specifically, the production process involves a phosphonomethylation reaction, where phosphorous acid or its esters are condensed with 1-aminopropanol in the presence of a dehydrating agent or catalyst to form ampropylfos.
