Dark green powder or dark green liquid. Odorless or slightly ammonia odor. soluble in water. Slightly soluble in alcohol and chloroform, insoluble in oil. The aqueous solution is transparent without precipitation. Slightly acidic (pH below 6.5), there is precipitation in the presence of calcium ions. Lightfastness is stronger than chlorophyll. Heat resistant.
Chlorophyllin copper complex sodium salt can be used as edible green pigment; deodorant. It can be used for deodorization of beverage alcohol (94%~96%).
Chlorophyllin copper complex sodium salt is obtained by extracting silkworm dung or leaves of plants such as clover, alfalfa, and nettle from organic solvent (such as acetone), saponification (removing methyl and chlorophyll ester groups with methanol solution of sodium hydroxide), and then copperizing with copper oxide.
