sassafras oil (Sassafras albidum) is credited with anti-septic, astringent, and stimulant properties. It is composed of approximately 80 percent saprol. Sassafras oil is obtained from the plant’s bark and root through a process of steam distillation. It may produce dermatitis in hypersensitive individuals.
Formerly as flavoring in beverages such as root beer. Oil as scent in perfumes and soaps.
