Xanthine sodium salt has been used:
- as a component in superoxide dismutase (SOD)-inhibitable ferricytochrome c reduction assay
- as a component in selection of chimeric Modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA)
- as a substrate in the reaction mixture for xanthine oxidase assay
Xanthine is commonly present in tea, coffee and cocoa. Xanthine is a nitrogenous compound present in blood and urine.
Xanthine possesses therapeutic properties. It acts as a mild stimulant of the central nervous system.
