white to very light yellow crystalline powder
ChEBI: Chlorfenethol is a diarylmethane.
Chlorfenethol is commercially produced through a Grignard reaction involving 4-chlorophenylmagnesium bromide and acetophenone derivatives. The process begins with the preparation of the Grignard reagent from 4-bromochlorobenzene and magnesium in dry ether, followed by its reaction with ethyl acetate or acetyl chloride to form the diarylmethanol structure.
Non-systemic with mainly ovidial activity. Disrupts insect nervous system.
Moderately toxic by ingestion andintraperitoneal routes. A pesticide. When heated todecomposition it emits toxic fumes of Cl-.
