Butylcarbitol Acetate is a clear, high-boiling, low volatility, slightly hydroscopic liquid with a mild ester type odor. It is freely miscible with most common organic solvents, but miscible with water only between certain limits. This solvent provides excellent film formation and formulation stability for coatings, and its mild, nonresidual odor makes it ideal for use in interior latex products.
Butyl Carbitol Acetate is an excellent solvent for many natural and synthetic resins. It finds use primarily as a solvent in printing inks and high-bake enamel coatings and as a coalescing agent in latex paints. It is also a suitable solvent for dyes in wood stains and furniture polishes and also in ballpoint pastes.
