Chemical Properties
orange-yellow crystalline powder, easily soluble in benzene and chloroform, slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol, insoluble in water. The melting point is 269°C, and the decomposition temperature is 290°C.
Uses
Iridium(III) acetylacetonate is used as a photoreducing agent, a precursor for preparing Ir-C thin film and a catalyst for hydrogenation of sulfur containing compounds. Used in various catalysis reactions in organic synthesis, including carbon nanostructures.
Application
(1) Using Ir(acac)3 as the precursor, the tomahawk coating is prepared by MOCVD technology, which has been widely used as the base material of the engine of missiles, rockets, cruisers, automobiles, etc.
(2) Using Ir(acac)3 as the deposition source, Ir-C cluster films were prepared on ZrO2 substrates, which have excellent electrochemical properties.
(3) Catalysts for hydrogenation of sulfur-containing aromatics.
(4) Strong photoreducing agent for phenylpyridine aqueous solution.
Reactions
Precursor for preparation heterogeneous catalyst on different supports for various catalytic applications: organic reactions ; water oxidation ; CO preferential oxidation ; oxygen evolution reactions;
CVD/ALD precursor for preparation of Ir and Ir2O3 films on different substrates.
Starting material for synthesis of phosphorescent iridium complexes bearing arylpyridine ligands.
