What is 1,1'-Carbonyldiimidazole used for?

Apr 19,2024

1,1'-Carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) is a versatile reagent with a wide range of applications in organic synthesis and various other fields. CDI is commonly used in the coupling of amino acids to form peptides. It activates the carboxyl group of an amino acid, facilitating its reaction with the amine group of another amino acid to form a peptide bond. CDI is used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds. It can be used to produce various drug intermediates by reacting with functional groups present in the molecules. CDI can be used to synthesise various drug intermediate components for the preparation of pharmaceutical compounds such as Finerenone, Cabotegravir and Abrocitinib. CDI catalyzes reactions with amines and is used as a coupling reagent for the amidation of unprotected α-amino acids with a wide range of aliphatic, aromatic and heteroaromatic amines in water under ambient, neutral conditions. CDI is also used for the activation of carboxylic acids and reacts with nucleophilic reagents to produce products such as amides, esters, urea and carbamates.
