Sodium pyruvate-Application

Dec 19,2019

Sodium pyruvate appears as white to slightly yellow crystalline pow. Sodium pyruvate is a salt of the conjugate anion form of pyruvic acid, known as pyruvate. Sodium pyruvate is commonly added to cell culture media as an additional source of energy, but may also have protective effects against hydrogen peroxide. This was reported by Giandomenico et al[1]. and has been confirmed by several independent groups.

Due to pyruvate being an intermediate in many pathways for metabolism including glycolysis, sodium pyruvate has been used in many experiments involving cell cultures to provide more energy. In adipocytes it was found that sodium pyruvate promoted increased uptake of insulin-mediated glucose. In the body, one way in which sodium pyruvate provides energy to cells is through pyruvate conversion to acetyl-CoA which then can enter the TCA cycle which produces energy and is linked to other energy producing processes[2].

Along with having antioxidant properties and energy producing effects, sodium pyruvate has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and is used in several studies on brain injury because of these characteristics[3][4].

Sodium pyruvate is utilized as a component in culture broth and media. The use of sodium pyruvate in Wallen fermentation medium to enhance the conversion of oleic acid to 10-ketostearic acid by Bacillus sphaericus has been described. A protocol that uses sodium pyruvate to establish stably transfected human B cell lines has been published.

Sodium pyruvate is a salt derived from a chemical compound called pyruvic acid, which is created naturally in the body. It’s recently become popular in workout circles because it has been shown to improve weight loss potential and increase energy levels in exercise enthusiasts. However, patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may not know this mineral, according to preliminary research, may also help treat the symptoms of their condition naturally. For one thing, sodium pyruvate may increase energy levels, which isn’t just useful when you’re working out. In fact, one common symptom of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is fatigue or lack of energy. Sodium pyruvate may be able to help boost your energy levels because it’s a vital component of the body’s fat and carb-burning processes, and may help your body produce more energy.

Another chronic obstructive pulmonary disease symptom that sodium pyruvate may help patients treat naturally is inflammation. Inflammation in the body is often caused by irritation-causing molecules called oxidants. However, these molecules can be countered with antioxidants, and sodium pyruvate is a potent antioxidant. As such, it may help your body naturally reduce inflammation caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

More research is needed on this supplement before it can become a common supplement for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Before you consider any supplemental chronic obstructive pulmonary disease treatment, consult your doctor. Your doctor may recommend supplements or foods that naturally contain sodium pyruvate, like apples and cheese.
