Do you know what pyridoxine hydrochloride is used for?

Nov 2,2024

Pyridoxine hydrochloride is a type of vitamin B6, a water-soluble vitamin. Yeast, liver, oysters, meat, fish, eggs, beans and peanuts contain high levels of vitamin B6.

What is the role of pyridoxine hydrochloride?

Clinically, pyridoxine hydrochloride is mainly used to prevent or treat vitamin B6 deficiency, including seborrheic dermatitis, chapped lips, etc., and can also be used to relieve nausea and vomiting caused by pregnancy.

Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, is a general term for three easily interconvertible pyridine derivatives: pyridoxine, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine. It also has another name, anti-dermatitis vitamin. It is easily destroyed by light or alkali and is not resistant to high temperatures.

Is pyridoxine hydrochloride natural?

Plants naturally contain the main forms of vitamin B6, such as 5'0-(β-D-pyranosyl) and other pyridoxines, rather than pyridoxal forms. Pyridoxine hydrochloride does not occur naturally in the body and is a crystalline isolate, usually made from petroleum and hydrochloric acid, and then processed with formaldehyde. Pyridoxal 5-phosphate is made from phosphorus oxychloride and/or adenosine triphosphate combined with pyridoxal; it is a crystalline isolate that bears little resemblance to dietary vitamin B6. At least one synthetic vitamin B-6 analog has been found to inhibit the action of natural vitamin B-6. One study of healthy older adults found that about one-third had a mild vitamin B-6 deficiency.

When should I take pyridoxine hydrochloride?

Pyridoxine hydrochloride is used to prevent or treat low vitamin B6 levels in people who do not get enough vitamin B6 in their diet. Most people who eat a normal diet do not need additional vitamin B6. However, certain medical conditions (such as alcoholism, liver disease, overactive thyroid gland, heart failure) or medications (such as isoniazid, cycloserine, hydralazine, penicillamine) can cause low vitamin B6 levels. Vitamin B6 plays important roles in the body. It is necessary for maintaining healthy nerves, skin, and red blood cells. Pyridoxine has been used to prevent or treat a certain nerve disease (peripheral neuropathy) caused by certain medications (such as isoniazid). It is also used to treat certain genetic diseases (such as xanthourea, hyperoxaluria, homocystinuria). In the above cases, we can take pyridoxine hydrochloride with the permission of the doctor.
