名称	(-)-Menthol
描述	(-)-Menthol (Levomenthol) is a levo isomer of menthol, an organic compound made synthetically or obtained from peppermint or mint oils with flavoring and local anesthetic properties. When added to pharmaceuticals and foods, menthol functions as a fortifier for peppermint flavors. It also has a counterirritant effect on skin and mucous membranes, thereby producing a local analgesic or anesthetic effect.
细胞实验	Approximately 2x105 cells (WEHI-3) are incubated in 12-well plates containing medium for 24 h without (control) or with various concentrations (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 μM) of (-)-menthol. The cells are harvested and washed with PBS before PI staining. The percentage of viable WEHI-3 cells is determined by trypan blue exclusion and flow cytometry. (Only for Reference)
体外活性	(-)-Menthol 对小鼠白血病WEHI-3细胞体外表现出剂量依赖性的细胞毒性。(-)-Menthol 抑制大鼠肝上皮肿瘤细胞生长，并在DMBA诱导大鼠乳腺肿瘤的初始阶段，作为一种强效的化学预防剂。此外，(-)-Menthol 还能抑制N-乙酰转移酶活性，发现它还能抑制DNA拓扑异构酶I、IIα和IIβ，并在人类胃癌SNU-5细胞中促进NF-kappaB表达。此外，(-)-Menthol 通过促进内质网释放Ca2+，诱导人类早幼粒细胞性白血病HL-60细胞死亡。
体内活性	(-)-menthol对活体内(小鼠BALB/c) WEHI-3细胞的影响被研究，观察到Mac-3与CD11b标记物降低，表明其抑制了巨噬细胞与粒细胞前体的分化。与未处理的动物相比，接受(-)-menthol处理的小鼠的肝脏与脾脏重量显著减轻。在动物中，(-)-menthol显示出毒性作用，但在人类中被认为是安全的，具有轻微的心脏加速效果。高剂量的(-)-menthol可能对啮齿动物的中央神经系统产生抑制效果。研究统计显示，(-)-menthol显著降低了检测动物的肝脏和脾脏重量，并减少了血液中MAC-3与CD11b细胞的百分比。
