Copal is the general name for fossil and other hard resins found in almost all tropical countries. All are distinguished by their yellowish to yellowish-brown color and their solubility in chloral hydrate, alcohol, linseed oil, and turpentine. Their main use is in the manufacture of lacquers, varnishes, coatings, and adhesives.
In varnishes and cements; as substitute for amber; manufacture of oil cloths and linoleum. In dentistry, for modeling Compounds and cavity varnishes.
Extractives and their physically modified derivatives. It is a product which may contain resin acids and their esters, terpenes, and oxidation or polymerization products of these terpenes. (Trachylobium or Hymenaea courbaril, Leguminosae).
