Polyethylene-polyamines is used as a curing agent (including epoxy resin curing agents) and cable connector material, in adhesives, casting and molding, civil engineering, composite materials, marine and protective coatings, potting and encapsulation, etc. It is also used in the manufacture of anion exchange resins, ion exchange membranes, crude oil demulsifiers, lubricating oil additives, and as a cyanide-free electroplating additive.
Polyethylene-polyamines neutralizes acids to form salts plus water in exothermic reactions. May be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Reacts with strong reducing agents such as hydrides to generate flammable gaseous hydrogen. Incompatible with aluminum, zinc and other nonferrous metals (USCG, 1999). Products of combustion contain toxic and irritating gases.
