Trioctyl borate is an organoborolate ester, which can be considered a derivative of orthoboric acid where the hydrogen atoms are replaced by organic groups. Trioctyl borate is commonly used as a polymer additive, such as an oxidative stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Moderately toxic by
ingestion. An eye irritant. Combustible when
exposed to heat or flame; can react with
oxidizing materials. To fight fire, use foam,
CO2, dry chemical. When heated to
decomposition it emits acrid smoke and
irritating fumes. See also ESTERS and
BORON COMPOUNDS.
