Soft yellow translucent resinous viscous substance. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, benzene, toluene, turpentine and rosin water.
Lead naphthenate is used as a drier (catalyst) and dispersant in paints, varnishes, and inks; it is also used as a wood preservative and insecticide, and in the formulation of lubricants and lubricant additives. This product is toxic and can cause symptoms of lead poisoning.
A poison. Moderately
toxic by intraperitoneal route. Mildly toxic
by ingestion. Questionable carcinogen with
experimental tumorigenic data. When heated
to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of
lead.
