Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (INCI), also known as sarkosyl, is a white powder derived from sarcosine, which make it is fate-free and biodegradable. The surfactant is amphiphilic due to the hydrophobic 12-carbon chain (lauroyl) and the hydrophilic carboxylate.
Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate is personal care products as well as in household and industrial applications, and it is used as a co-surfactant in cleanser formulations such as shampoos and body washes. It can also be used in oral care applications such as toothpastes and incorporated into syndet and combo bars. The typical usage levels range from 1-5% on an active basis.

This ingredient also serves to clean skin and hair by mixing with oil and dirt and enabling them to be rinsed away. As a modified fatty acid, it is thought to be more soluble, and have increased crystallinity and acidity compared to its original fatty acid composition.

N-Lauroylsarcosine (Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate) is used for solubilization and separation of membrane proteins and glycoprotein's; reported to inhibit hexokinase. It is useful in concentrated salt solutions used in the cell lysis step during RNA purification (helps avoid excessive foaming). It has been used to indicate paramagnetic anisotropy sign change in micelle mesophage. Inhibits bacterial flora of human saliva/gut at 0.25% as well as acting as a fungi static agent in aqueous dispersion (1%).

N-Lauroylsarcosine (Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate) is an anionic surfactant with an ability to denature proteins. Due to its microbicidal property, N-lauroylsarcosine is being considered as a potent anti-microbicide in topical formulations, especially against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Sodium N-lauroylsarcosinate can causes skin irritation and serious eye damage. Fatal if inhaled.

Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is good for skin and hair. It does not have any common side effects like skin irritation and sensitivity. Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate is also vegan and can be added in concentrations of up to 5% in leave-on products and 15% in rinse-off products. Further, this ingredient is non-comedogenic, so it does not clog pores or cause acne. Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate can be used on all skin types. However, a patch test is recommended.

1)Synthesis of lauryl chloride: In a dry three-necked flask equipped with a reflux condenser, add a certain amount of lauric acid, heating and melting, the temperature is controlled at 60~70e, slowly add phosphorus trichloride drop by drop with sufficient stirring, the reaction is 2h, the reaction is static and stratified, the lower layer of phosphite is removed, and the upper layer of lauryl chloride can be obtained.

2) Synthesis of N-lauroyl sarcosine: Add a certain amount of sodium sarcosine solution and solvent tetrahydrofuran to a four-necked flask with an electric stirrer and reflux condenser, and add aqueous sodium hydroxide and lauryl chloride dropwise with stirring, the pH value of the reaction system was controlled in the range of 9~11, and the pH value of the reaction system was controlled in the range of 9~11, and the pH value of the reaction system was adjusted to 1~2 with dilute acid to convert sodium sarcosinate to insoluble sodium sarcosinate with dilute acid, and the solvent was recovered by continuing to react for 3 hours. After the reaction was continued for 3 h, the pH was adjusted to 1~2 with dilute acid so that N-lauroyl sarcosine was converted to N-lauroyl sarcosine, which was insoluble in water, and thus separated from water-soluble inorganic impurities. Extract the product with ether, wash the upper oil layer to neutral, dry with anhydrous sodium sulfate, evaporate the solvent and recrystallize with petroleum ether to obtain white needle crystals.
