Mordant Red 7 is mainly used for dyeing and printing wool, silk and their fabrics, and can also dye nylon and its blended fabrics. The color of wool dyed products will change when exposed to ultraviolet light; those dyed by post-mortem will turn dark purple, while those dyed by pre-mortem will turn wine red. It is also used as a complexation indicator to determine calcium, copper, manganese, nickel, lead and zinc, as well as for fluorescent determination of fluorine, colorimetric determination of cobalt and gallium, and as a biological staining agent.
