Nizofenzone fumarate is a potent antianoxic agent reported of benefit to geriatric and
stroke patients. In animal models nizofenzone is reported to have protective effects against
anoxia, global ischemia or other conditions resulting from cerebral infarction. It is also
claimed to be a sedative and anticonvulsant.
Pale yellow crystals from isopropyl ether, melting point 75-76°C. Nizofenone Fumarate: C21H21ClN4O3C4H4O4.[54533-86-7]. Pale yellow crystals from isopropyl ether, melting point 157-158°C. Acute toxicity LD50 male and female mice, male and female rats (mg/kg): 495, 504, 1711, 1580 orally; 62, 70, 63, 65 intravenously; 270, 278, 1830, 1629 subcutaneously.
Nizofenone has the effect of prolonging survival time in local and global cerebral ischemia models, global cerebral ischemia-reperfusion models, and hypoxia models, and has the effect of improving brain function and shrinking cerebral embolism lesions. It is used for brain disorders caused by ischemia in the acute phase of mild to moderate subarachnoid hemorrhage.
