DI-N-HEXYL PHTHALATE Usage And Synthesis
  • Chemical PropertiesIt is a clear, oily liquid, with a melting point of -58°C and a boiling point of 340–350°C.
  • UsesDi-n-hexyl Phthalate is a Phthalate derivative and an organic extract contaminant found in drinking water, which was shown to activate Nrf-2-Mediated Antioxidant response in human cell line.
  • Production MethodsDnC6P is manufactured by esterifying phthalic anhydride and hexanol in the presence of sulfuric acid.
  • General DescriptionYellow-brown oily viscous liquid with a slight aromatic odor. Insoluble in water.
  • Air & Water ReactionsInsoluble in water.
  • Reactivity ProfileDI-N-HEXYL PHTHALATE is an ester. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides. DI-N-HEXYL PHTHALATE can react with oxidizing materials and strong alkaline materials.
  • Health HazardSYMPTOMS: Symptoms of exposure to DI-N-HEXYL PHTHALATE may include eye irritation, skin irritation or drying progressing to dermatitis, nausea, vomiting and dizziness.
  • Fire HazardDI-N-HEXYL PHTHALATE is combustible.
  • Safety ProfileVery mddly toxic by ingestion and skin contact. Experimental reproductive effects. A skin and eye irritant. Combustible when exposed to heat or flame; can react with oxidming materials. To fight fue, use foam, CO2, dry chemical. See also PHTHALIC ACID and ESTERS.
