It has a role as a central nervous system stimulant, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, a hallucinogen, a local anaesthetic and an analgesic. It is a member of indazoles, an aromatic ether and a tertiary amino compound. It is a conjugate base of a benzydamine(1+).
