Description
Dimethyldimethoxysilane is a monomeric alkylalkoxysilane. It hydrolyzes in contact with water, releasing methanol, to form highly reactive silanols, which further condense to form oligomeric and polymeric siloxanes.
Dimethyldimethoxysilane is mainly used in these aspects:
- In the synthesis of chemical intermediates.
- As an additive for the production of silicone resins.
- In the hydrophobization of surfaces, like glass, pigments etc.
Chemical Properties
Colorless clear liquid
Uses
It is employed as silylating agent for diols. Used as a monomer (?building block?) in the production of silicone polymers or silicone resins, as an intermediate (starting material) in the production of other organosilicon substances. Also employed in non-metal surface treatment to enhance the adhesion properties of surfaces. Used in sealants, in silicone polymer preparations (for the production of elastomers), in mould-making, in semiconductor manufacture, as a laboratory chemical in research and development activities.
Uses
Dimethoxydimethylsilane (DMDMS) can be used:
- To synthesize various macroporous silica aerogels.
- In the preparation of hollow silica nanoparticles loaded with phthalocyanine for near-infrared photodynamic and photothermal combination therapy.
- To synthesize dielectric silicone elastomer with high dielectric permittivity.
Flammability and Explosibility
Highly flammable
