Chemical Properties
Black powder. Insoluble in water, acetone, ethanol, chloroform, toluene, slightly soluble in o-chlorophenol, pyridine. Yellowish green in concentrated sulfuric acid, produces black precipitate after dilution. Bluish green in alkaline solution of insurance powder, reddish brown in acidic solution.
Uses
Vat Gray M (Vat Black 8) is mainly used for dyeing cotton fibers and their fabrics, as well as printing on cotton cloth. It has good affinity but moderate leveling properties. It is also used for dyeing silk, viscose fiber, and cotton-vinyl blended fabrics. Dyeing methods include pad dyeing and dip dyeing. Its fine powder specifications are suitable for suspension pad dyeing. After finishing with cyanaldehyde or BHES resin, the color of the printed and dyed fabric remains basically unchanged. After finishing with trimethylolpropane melamine or DMEU resin, the color is bluer than the original sample. After finishing with 2D resin, the color becomes slightly redder.
Preparation
3,9-Dibromo-7H-benzo[de]anthracen-7-one, 3H-naphtho[2,3-f]indazol-3-one and 1-Aminoanthracene-9,10-dione in Potassium hydroxide under the existence of condensation, closed loop.
Safety Profile
Mildly toxic by
intraperitoneal and ingestion routes. An eye
irritant.When heated to decomposition it
emits toxic fumes of NOx.
Properties and Applications

In concentrated sulfuric acid to have yellow green: alkaline reduction leuco for blue light green; Acid reduction leuco for red brown: mainly used in the cotton fabric jig dyeing, dyeing and suspended pad dyeing, also used for Fiber/cotton, polyester-cotton blended fabric two bath set of dye dyeing. Suitable for suspension pad dyeing deep, shallow gray, and can spell dye all kinds of noise. Its main leuco dye yarn, can also be used to viscose and silk dyeing.
