Production Methods
(-)-Guaiol can be produced by extraction from Guaiacwood oil
with a volatile solvent, usually Acetone,
Ethanol or Ethylether.
It can also be isolated from the wood of
certain Australian members of the family
Taxodiaceae, particularly the so-called "Murray River Pine".
General Description
(-)-Guaiol is a sesquiterpene alcohol which has guaiane skeleton. It naturally occurs in essential oils extracted from Salvia lanigera and Helitta ongifoliata and has antibacterial activity.
