One of several intermediates in the formation of silicones or siloxanes, they react with hydroxyl groups on many types of surfaces to produce a permanent, thin-surface film of silicone that imparts water repellency. Examples are methyltrichlorosilane, dimethyldichlorosilane, and trimethylchlorosilane.Общее описание
Methyl chlorosilane is a colorless gas with a distinctive odor. Chloromethyl silane is insoluble in water. Its vapors are heavier than air. Contact with the material causes severe irritation to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Chloromethyl silane is toxic by ingestion and skin absorption. Chloromethyl silane is also a dangerous fire risk. Chloromethyl silane is used to make water repellent materials. Prolonged exposure of container to fire or intense heat may result in their violent rupturing and rocketing.Реакции воздуха и воды
Highly flammable. Based on the properties of similar materials, there is the possibility that the reaction of Chloromethyl silane with water may be vigorous or violent. Products of the reaction include hydrogen chloride. The reaction generates heat and this heat may be sufficient to ignite the product. Chlorosilanes, such as Chloromethyl silane, are compounds in which silicon is bonded to from one to four chlorine atoms with other bonds to hydrogen and/or alkyl groups. Chlorosilanes react with water, moist air, or steam to produce heat and toxic, corrosive fumes of hydrogen chloride. They may also produce flammable gaseous H2. They can serve as chlorination agents. Chlorosilanes react vigorously with both organic and inorganic acids and with bases to generate toxic or flammable gases.Опасность
