What is the use and toxicity of Trimethylolpropane?

Trimethylolpropane (TMP) is a trifunctional polyol and an important starting material for synthesis processes in the chemical industry. TMP is used in saturated polyesters for coil coatings, alkyds for paints, polyurethanes for coatings and elastomers, acrylic acid esters for radiation curing, esters for synthetic lubricants, rosin esters and for surface treatment of pigments. Trimethylolpropane causes skin irritation and serious eye irritation. it is suspected of causing cancer and very toxic to aquatic life.
