Argireline is a peptide with the sequence Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-NH₂, also known as acetyl hexapeptide-8. It has anti-ageing properties and reduces facial wrinkles, primarily used in functional cosmetic formulations. Argireline reduces facial lines and wrinkles by disrupting the formation of SNARE complexes (SNAP receptor, soluble n-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor (NSF) attachment protein receptor), thus preventing muscle contraction. It is also used as a biosafety cosmetic alternative to botulinum toxin.
