What is bifonazole used for?
Mar 16,2024
Bifonazole is a imidazole antimycotic bifonazole was first synthesized at Bayer Pharmaceuticals in 1974. Bifonazole is soluble in
glacial acetic acid (833 mg/mL), chloroform (344 mg/mL), benzene (38.2 mg/mL),
methanol (36.5 mg/mL), ethanol (24.6 mg/mL),
ethyl acetate (17.1 mg/mL), and acetonitrile
(10.4 mg/mL). It is practically insoluble in
water, but in Walpole’s buffer, solubility is
3.75 mg/mL at pH 2.Stability
Pure bifonazole is stable under normal storage conditions. In solution, the substance is stable under neutral or slightly alkaline conditions. It slowly decomposes in strongly alkaline or strongly acidic media. Bifonazole solutions are sensitive to light.
Indications
Topical treatment of mycoses of the skin induced or sustained by fungi such as dermatophytes, yeasts, and also chromomycetes.
Side Effects
Topical applications, including intravaginal application, are well tolerated. Skin irritations and allergic reactions are rarely observed and seem to be mainly due to the galenic formulation (e.g., fatty preparations on acute, inflammative lesions). Allergic reactions are rarely observed.
