1-Methylpiperazine can be synthesized in several ways, including treating1,4-dimethylpiperazine with Raney nickel (Yuan, Q.-l., et al., 2013).

Uses

1-Methylpiperazine is a common building block used in organic synthesis. For example, N-methylpiperazine is used in the manufacture of various pharmaceutical drugs including cyclizine, meclizine, and sildenafil.

The lithium salt, lithium N-methylpiperazide, is used as a reagent in organic synthesis for protection of aryl aldehydes.

Hazards

1-Methylpiperazine Causes severe skin burns and eye damage;

May cause respiratory irritation;

May cause an allergic skin reaction;

Harmful if swallowed, in contact with skin or if inhaled.
