Testosterone enanthate is an androgen and anabolic steroid (AAS) medication which is used mainly in the treatment of low testosterone levels in men. It is also used in hormone therapy for women and transgender men.

Synthesis of Testosterone Enanthate

The current synthesis method for Testosterone enanthate typically involved the reduction of 4-androstenedione to obtain Testosterone and the corresponding diol, followed by oxidation to obtain Testosterone. Testosterone was then reacted with pyridine, heptanoic anhydride, and ethyl acetate to obtain Testosterone enanthate.

Uses of Testosterone Enanthate

Testosterone enanthate is used primarily in androgen replacement therapy. It is the most widely used form of testosterone in androgen replacement therapy. The medication is specifically approved, in the United States, for the treatment of hypogonadism in men, delayed puberty in boys, and breast cancer in women.It is also used in masculinizing hormone therapy for transgender men.1

Side Effects of Testosterone Enanthate

Nausea, vomiting, headache, skin color changes, increased/decreased sexual interest, oily skin, hair loss, and acne may occur. Pain and redness at the injection site may also occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
