Reaction of 1-Hexene

Mar 29,2022

Introduction

1-hexene is an organic compound with chemical formula C6H12. It is a colorless liquid, insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, petroleum ether and other organic solvents[1]. It is mainly used in the manufacture of spices, dyes and synthetic resins. 1-hexene is insoluble in water and soluble in most organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, benzene and petroleum ether.

Properties

1. Catalytic hydrogenation

In the presence of catalyst, 1-hexene reacts with hydrogen to form hexane

2. Electrophilic addition

The carbon carbon double bond of hexene is very active, easy to give electrons, and has an addition reaction with reagents that need electrons. This reaction is called electrophilic addition. (1) Addition with halogen (2) addition with halogenated hydrocarbon (3) addition with sulfuric acid (4) addition with water

3. Oxidation reaction

The activity of carbon carbon double bond is also easy to be oxidized. It can be oxidized by potassium permanganate to glutaraldehyde under acidic conditions, and produce carbon dioxide and water at the same time.

4. Polymerization reaction

Hexene can open carbon carbon double bonds and polymerize together through self addition to form polymers.

Handling and storage

Precautions for operation: closed operation and comprehensive ventilation[2]. Operators must receive special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear filter gas masks (half masks), chemical safety glasses, anti-static work clothes and rubber oil resistant gloves. Keep away from kindling and heat sources. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation system and equipment. Prevent steam from leaking into the air of the workplace. Avoid contact with oxidants and acids. During filling, the flow rate shall be controlled and there shall be grounding device to prevent electrostatic accumulation. Handle with care to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Firefighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment of corresponding varieties and quantities shall be provided. Empty containers may leave harmful substances.

Storage precautions: store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from kindling and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 10 ℃. The package shall be sealed and shall not come into contact with air. It shall be stored separately from oxidants and acids, and mixed storage shall not be allowed. It should not be stored in large quantities or for a long time. Explosion proof lighting and ventilation facilities shall be adopted. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to produce sparks. The storage area shall be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and appropriate receiving materials.

Packing method: ordinary wooden case outside ampoule bottle; Threaded glass bottles, iron capped pressure glass bottles, plastic bottles or ordinary wooden cases outside metal barrels (cans).

Precautions for transportation: during transportation, the transportation vehicles shall be equipped with corresponding varieties and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. It's best to transport in the morning and evening in summer. The tank car used in transportation shall be equipped with grounding chain, and a hole diaphragm can be set in the tank to reduce static electricity caused by vibration. It is strictly prohibited to load and transport with oxidants, acids, edible chemicals, etc. During transportation, it shall be protected from sun exposure, rain and high temperature. During stopover, keep away from kindling, heat source and high temperature area. The exhaust pipe of the vehicle carrying this article must be equipped with a fire stop device. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to produce sparks for loading and unloading. During highway transportation, drive according to the specified route, and do not stay in residential areas and densely populated areas. It is forbidden to slip away during railway transportation. It is strictly prohibited to transport in bulk with wooden ships and cement ships.
