Anti-aging substances: pro-xylane and Retinol

When it comes to the quest for youthful, radiant skin, an abundance of skincare ingredients claim to turn back the clock. However, three ingredients have consistently risen to the top as powerhouse anti-aging champions: retinol, pro-Xylane, and peptides.

pro-xylane

Initially used in Lancôme products, pro-xylane is a patented ingredient developed by the L’Oréal Group and produced in its factories. It is an ingredient derived from xylose that is found in large quantities in the beech tree and has potent anti-aging benefits in skin care products. As a xylose derivative with anti-aging actives, pro-xylane benefits are the ability to promote the skin’s production of aminoglycosides, or glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which can absorb moisture and make the cellular matrix meshwork more resilient, thus serving to improve cellular firmness, enhance the elasticity of the skin, and prevent the effects of aging.

Retinol

Retinol, also known as vitamin A, is one of the most effective ingredients for reversing the signs of aging in your skin. Based on the source of Harvard Health Publishing, “Retinoids reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing collagen production. They also stimulate the production of new blood vessels in the skin, which improves skin color. Additional benefits include fading age spots and softening rough patches of skin”. However, retinol can cause dryness, accelerating the skin’s sensitivity to light. Thus, moisturizer and sunscreen are necessary while using retinol as a treatment.

Although they are both anti-aging substances, they work in different ways. Retinol's proven track record in stimulating collagen production and promoting cell turnover makes it a powerhouse ingredient. Pro-Xylane's ability to replenish glycosaminoglycans and support the skin’s natural structural components contributes to its anti-aging prowess.
