ChEBI: Carbromal is a N-acylurea.
120 parts urea and 258 parts 2-bromo-2-ethylbutyrylbromide was mixed and
stood at room temperature for 12 hours; then the mixture was heated about
3 hours on water bath and adjusted to alkaline pH with sodium bicarbonate
after cooling. The unreacted products was dissolved in brine, the insoluble
part was filtered off. The recrystallization from ethanol gave the title product -
(2-bromo-2-ethyl-butyryl)urea as the colorless, odorless crystals. MP 114°-
118°C.

The neat material may be sensitive to prolonged exposure to air and light. (2-BROMO-2-ETHYLBUTYRYL)UREA is incompatible with acids and alkalis.
Flash point data for (2-BROMO-2-ETHYLBUTYRYL)UREA are not available; however, (2-BROMO-2-ETHYLBUTYRYL)UREA is probably combustible.

intraperitoneal routes. Mutation data
reported. A sedative, hypnotic, and central Intdious system depressant. When heated
to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes
of NOx and Br-.
