white to off-white crystalline powder
Thallium(III) Acetate is used for oxidation of alkenes and alkynes; oxidation of conjugated dienes; hydroxylation of double bonds; cleavage of cyclopropane rings; oxidation of enamines; oxidative rearrangements; bromination of aromatic compounds; oxidation of thiols and p-toluenesulfonylhydrazones; formation of acyloxy carboxylic acids; oxidative cyclizations.
Thallium(III) Acetate can also be prepared by dissolving
thallium(III) oxide in acetic acid and acetic anhydride and stirring at 80-90 °C. The solution is filtered, cooled and the product
obtained is recrystallized.
core: thallium
reagent type: catalyst
Thallium(III) Acetate remains stable for long periods if kept in a well-sealed desiccator and away from light. It
is extremely poisonous. Use in a fume hood.
