white to pale yellow crystalline powder
Silver Hexafluoroantimonate(V) is used as a catalyst in the synthesis of isocoumarins through benzothiadiazine-fused.
Silver hexafluoroantimonate has been made from SbF3 (or Sb2O3), AgCl, and Bromine Trifluoride, but is more readily prepared by reacting Antimony(V) Fluoride and Silver(I) Fluoride in anhydrous HF at -78 to 0 °C, washing with pet ether, and drying in vacuo.
Silver hexafluoroantimonate is useful as a metathesis reagent with organic and organometallic halides; a mild Lewis acid catalyst for the rearrangement of α-haloketones, pinacols, epoxides, and propargyl esters.
