White crystalline powder. Soluble in water (15.5 g/100 g
at 20°C) but only slightly soluble in methanol (0.1 g/100 g at 20°C). It
is practically insoluble in organic solvents such as benzene, acetone,
and diethyl ether.
Guanidine phosphate (GP) was first synthesized by a Japanese scholar Kiichiro Sugino in 1938.
Guanidine Phosphate can be used as flame retardant, water repellent and rust inhibitor for wood, fiber, paper, etc.
Synthesis of Guanidine Phosphate:
Add sodium metal into methanol, add guanidine hydrochloride in the mixtrue and was heated to 60°C with stirring. Then, it is cooled and filtered, phosphoric acid is added to the filtrate, and the reaction is carried out under stirring, and the guanidine phosphate is precipitated.
