Vinyl isopropyl ether is a precursor of polyvinyl ether. It is used as a base film for kinetic data on the reaction of trifluoroacetic acid with hydroxyl groups. Vinyl isopropyl ether is also used as an inorganic acid scavenger in liquid phase systems and as a polymeriser of cationic monomers. The molecule consists of two vinyl groups, a hydroxyl group and an ether group. The molecule has six carbon atoms, eight hydrogen atoms and four oxygen atoms. Isopropyl vinyl ether does not contain any nitrogen atoms or fatty acids.
