Salvianolic acid A is an antioxidant and free radical scavenging compound extracted from S. miltiorrhiza that has been investigated for its cardioprotective and chemopreventative properties. It has been reported to reduce leukocyte-endothelial adherence, as well as inhibit inflammation and matrix metalloproteinases, suppress apoptosis, and reduce lipid peroxidation in damaged cardiac tissue.
ISalvianolic acid A (Sal A) and salvianolic acid B (Sal B) were isolated and purified from the crude extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Antioxidant activities of Sal A and Sal B were also evaluated and the ABTS results showed that Sal A and Sal B exhibited high total antioxidant activities, their EC50 values were 1.35 0.00 and 1.43 0.01 .mu.g/mL.
ChEBI: Salvianolic acid A is a stilbenoid.
Salvianolic acid A is a phenolic acid, isolated from Danshen, a traditional Chinese medicine, commonly used for the treatment of bone loss, chronic renal failure, hepatocirrhosis, hepatitis, coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease.
Salvianolic acid A is cell protective antioxidant originally isolated from Salvia. It has been found to attenuate PDGF-induced ROS formation in hepatic stellate cells and protected against isoproterenol-induced myocardial damage in rats.
