3-Bromo-11,11-dimethyl-11H-benzo[b]fluorene is commonly used in the fields of drug synthesis, pesticide manufacture and dye industry. It can be used as a deprotection reagent in organic synthesis, in order to protect the reaction sites such as hydroxyl group or amino group, and can also be used as a luminescent material in optical functional materials.

3-Bromo-11,11-dimethyl-11H-benzo[b]fluorene can be prepared by the aromatization reaction of fluorene Br2 and dimethylbenzene.
