Synthetic anabolic steroid related to testosterone.
Controlled substance (anabolic steroid)
ChEBI: An androgen that is nalandrone carrying two methyl substituents at positions 7alpha and 17.
Experimental
teratogenic and reproductive effects.
Questionable carcinogen with experimental
neoplastigenic data. When heated to
decomposition it emits acrid smoke and
irritating fumes.
Under nitrogen atmosphere, 30.0 mL of a freshly prepared 2.2 mol / L ethyl ether methyl lithium THF solution was cooled in an ice bath and 4.00 g (21 mmol) of cuprous iodide was added with stirring, followed by the addition of 3.00 g (10.5 mmol) of 6 -dehydrogenation product (compound 6). After completion of the reaction, as indicated by TLC, the reaction mixture was stirred at 25 C for 4 h. After removing the cooled bath, the mixture was stirred for 30 min and poured into a cooled saturated ammonium chloride solution, followed by the addition of benzene under stirring. The reaction mixture was filtered through diatomaceous earth. The resulting solid was washed twice with benzene. The residue was separated from the aqueous phase and then the organic layer was washed to neutrality with saturated ammonium chloride and saturated sodium chloride. The organic layer was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated under vacuum to give an oily residue. The resulting residue was purified by fast chromatography to give mibolerone 2.20 g, 72.5%.
Veterinary Drugs and Treatments
Cheque Drops was labeled as indicated “for estrous (heat) prevention
in adult female dogs not intended primarily for breeding purposes.”
In clinical trials it was 90% effective in suppressing estrus.
Although not approved, mibolerone at dosages of 50 micrograms
per day will prevent estrus in the cat, but its use is generally
not recommended because of the very narrow therapeutic index
of the drug in this species (see the Adverse Effects and Overdosage
sections for more information).
