Lamotrigine (614.4 g, 2.4 mol) and solid sodium hydroxide (242.4 g) were added to water (60 L) and stirred under reflux for 24 hours. The resulting solution was cooled to 15-20°C and the pH was adjusted to 5.5-6.0 with hydrochloric acid. The precipitated solid was filtered and dried for 24 hours, with the drying process carried out sequentially at 40°C, 50°C, and 70°C. The purity of the product was determined by HPLC to be 82%. The HPLC conditions were as follows: 583 g of the above 82% purity product sample was added to propanol (15 L) and stirred under reflux for 0.5 hours to obtain the target product 5-DesaMino 5-Oxo-2,5-dihydro LaMotrigine.
